Thank You for Supporting 'A Gym Thing' at The Pleasance Theatre

A massive thank you to everyone who came along to the read through of 'A Gym Thing' at the Pleasance Theatre last Friday 3rd March, the play was very well received and your feedback gave us a lot of food for thought to move forward with.

We were particularly pleased with some very encouraging feedback from the trustee of a charity which tackles body dysmorphic disorder (Which the play centres on).

The Body Dysmorphic Disorder Foundation was invited to a preview reading of a ‘A Gym Thing’ and we feel that it is an important piece of theatre that communicates accurately the struggles a person experiences while suffering from gym addiction, muscle dysmorphia and body dysmorphic disorder. Body dysmorphic disorder affects men and women equally, quality of life is extremely poor and the suicide rates are amongst the highest in all of the mental disorders. Despite its seriousness and affecting 2% of the population there is little awareness of the disorder leaving the sufferers to suffer in silence and shame. Increased awareness is desperately needed, especially to young people and men, to identify behaviours and symptoms earlier in order prevent needless suffering. ’A Gym Thing’ both educates as well as entertains and is much needed piece of theatre that should be shown widely.

We are thrilled that we're spreading an accurate message of the disorder and are excited to take it's development to the next stage. A massive thanks to Tarrick Benham, Tom Vallen, Bethan James, Philip Scott-Wallace and Joanna Gunnell for their creativity, energy and support.

This production was funded by profits from Working Cast’s staffing agency.

We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the companies who use Working Cast for their staffing needs. It is because of your business that nights like this are able to be staged.
